Organization
  • Formed in 1961
  • Autonomous governmental body governed by a five-member board. The Board is appointed by the USD 413 School Board (two members) City of Chanute Commissioners (two members) and an At-Large appointment
  • Governed by the General Statutes of Kansas, 1949, Article 19, Section 12-1922 to 12-1936, 1994 of the State of Kansas Recreation Enabling Act

How We Are Funded
Chanute Recreation is funded through a mill levy from USD 413, program fees, usage/facility rental fees and sponsorships. Taxes are collected by the Neosho County Clerk, distributed to USD 413 and then passed on to Chanute Recreation. Once the recreation board approves a budget the school district shall levy funds that are within the approved levy amount authority. 

Facilities
The Chanute Recreation Commission is comprised of three facilities: Recreation Center, Multi-Purpose Building and Lakeview Recreational Area & Sports Complex. Lakeview Recreational Area consists of 2+mile walking trails, outdoor fitness area, play pods, disc golf and sand volleyball. Lakeview Sports Complex consists of 6 soccer fields, 2 t-ball fields, 2 flag football fields, and 3 dirt baseball/softball fields. 

Programming 
Youth: Fall/Spring Soccer, Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball/Softball/T-Ball, Sports Camps & Clinics, Afterschool Program
Adult: Womens Volleyball, Coed Volleyball, Sand Volleyball, Mens Softball, Coed Softball, Noon Basketball, Pickleball, WalkFit
Special Events: Family Fun Night, Halloween Fun Night, Fall Festival, Christmas Carnival, Daddy/Daughter Dance, SummerFest
